With all of this uncertainty, I thought I'd pick a few of my favourite tracks to share with you in the hope of creating a playlist full of Finer Songs that we can all enjoy to our heart's content. How does that sound? Leave one of your favourite songs in the comments below, along with why you love it so much and we'll get listening to them all. Here's track one on The Finer Things Club playlist, and funnily enough it also happens to be one of the best songs in the world...
KEEP THE CAR RUNNING BY ARCADE FIRE
- live at reading fest 2007 version
Every night my dream’s the same
The same old city with a different name...
Keep The Car Running is a seriously beautiful song but you probably don't need me to tell you that...
I listen to this song nearly every single day but it still gives me chills down my spine every time I hear it. It's so easy to get drunk on Win's vocals, but I think it's the wall of sound that actually hits me hardest and, in turn, fills my heart with 300 different emotions in the best possible way.
People argue about the meaning behind this song but, for me, it concerns a lot of things. It's about fear. It's about uncertainty. It's about love. It's about freedom. It's about hope and progression in adverse situations. An elegy of sorts, but one that is also obviously hopeful. The whole concept of keeping the car running for someone when they're so unsure is hugely comforting to me, and it's a song that I return to time and time again for that very reason.
This song reminds me of summer days, best friends and one of my favourite books, The Knife Of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness. Pop it on your playlist and play it loud.

Absolutely agree with the whole 'favourites' thing! We have Jukebox Friday at work where each member of the team picks an album to listen to throughout the day, and my mind always draws a blank!

Yes yes yes, finding a favourite song or band is so hard. My music taste is so varied so it's hard to narrow it down to just one song or artist! I'll give you my favourite song as of this moment which is Riptide by Vance Joy x x
ReplyDeleteSo true about picking favourites - it's too hard to commit to a favourite anything! Love this post, and would definitely love to see more in the future :)
